Winter Home Maintenance Tips

* Clean your chimneys annually.  Over 15,000 chimney fires occur every year.

* Have your furnace serviced every year., Not only does this prolong its life, it helps reduce your heating costs and prevents "puff backs".

*To prevent frozen pipes, keep your thermostat above 60 degrees.

*When out of town, have some one you trust check on your house daily.

*Clean gutters & down spouts after each fall.  This will assist in preventing "ice dams".  Also make sure attics are properly vented.

*Know where the house's main water shut off valve is.

*Space heaters should only be used while supervised.  Use only in well ventilated areas. Keep drapes and other flammable materials away.

* Turn off & drain exterior faucets and hoses.  Irrigation systems should be winterized to prevent freezing.

* Install Low Temperature Sensors that will notify your alarm company if interior temperatures fall bellow freezing.

*Consider an Electrical Power Back-up Generator.

*Test & replace the batteries on any battery-operated alarms (smoke, carbon monoxide, etc)
